Wavus Camp for Girls hires over 70 young women for its remarkable staff. Wavus pursues applicants who will serve as positive role models for our campers and who will bring to the camp energy, a sense of adventure, and flexibility to do whatever is necessary to help each member of the community have the best possible summer. Experience in wilderness travel / camp craft as well as prior youth mentoring experience are valuable. Our strongest candidates come with certification (current or prior) in advanced first aid and/or water safety or a strong interest in these trainings.
Responsibilities include supervising a cabin, overseeing one of a number of recreational activities at camp (including sailing, target sports, pottery, and high ropes course), co-leading off campus trips ranging from two to twenty-two days (depending on your experience), covering organized swim periods, and assisting with evening activities. The summer season is divided into two sessions of 3 ½ weeks in addition to staff training. The employment period extends about 10 weeks from early June to mid-August and includes a nine-day orientation program in addition to 4 days of skills training and certification.
Compensation is dependent upon experience and responsibilities. Applicants must have graduated from high school. Benefits include room and board, laundry facilities, a staff lounge area, and computer / Internet access. However the greatest benefit comes from the interaction with a high-spirited group of campers and peers on the beautiful shores of Damariscotta Lake as well as New England’s premier wilderness recreation areas.
