Nelson Bandy - Leadership School Educator

Carleton College, 2016 Geology

Started at The Leadership School: August 2017

Nelson grew up in Loudonville, Ohio near the Mohican State Park.  He graduated from Carleton College in 2016, where he studied geology.  After graduating he travelled to Patagonia with the National Outdoor Leadership School, which led to him getting a job at TLS.  Nelson enjoys his summers in Alaska sea kayaking with Stellers' sea lions. He is also an thrift shopping, rock examiner, and fitness guru.  He is quite enthused to come back and work at TLS again for another season with cherished friends and acquaintances.

Nina Byers - Leadership School Educator

Hamilton College, 2016 Comparative Literature with a minor in Geoscience and History

A graduate form Hamilton College, Nina is excited return to the TLS team. At Hamilton she majored in Comparative Literature and minored in Geoscience and History. Nina  fostered her passion for effective communication in the outdoors and education, through environmental nonprofits, children`s museums, and leading trips through the Maine or Adirondack wilderness. Without doubt, however, Nina`s forte is in fort building-- working with the world around her to build exciting learning environments. Ever since attending summer camp 12 years ago, Nina loves all the mountains, lakes, and beaches Maine has to offer and is excited to continue teaching in the places she knows and loves! 

Sam Copland - Leadership School Educator

Bowdoin College, 2014 Psychology and Gender & Womens Studies with a minor in Education

Started at The Leadership School: August 2014

Sam is from Uxbridge, Massachusetts. An education minor at Bowdoin College, she is very excited to combine her passion of working with students with her love of being outdoors. Sam worked with students in various capacities during college, including tutoring at local schools in Brunswick and being a counselor at Slovenski Camps during the summers. In her free time, Sam can be found running, cooking, or hanging out with friends. 

Neil D'Acierno - Leadership School Educator

Neil is from Southampton, NY and developed a love for Maine while at Unity College. He enjoys eating (a lot), surfing, fishing, and baseball. Neil is excited to be at The Leadership School to learn from both fellow staff and the students! 

Noah Dines - Leadership School Educator

University of Connecticut, 2016 Political Science

Started at the Leadership School:  August 2016

Noah graduated from UConn and is eager to expand into the experiential-education world with The Leadership School. Interested in communication on an interpersonal and global scale, Noah brings his Political Science degree, conversational french, and 4 years of experience as a Camp Tevya counselor and department head. At Tevya, he directed the Outdoor Life and Learning department and looks forward to expanding that focus at TLS. Noah believes in the power of play and looks forward to integrating that philosophy with TLS. In his free time, he enjoys paddling and petting zoos.

Kelsey Goodwin - Leadership School Educator

Wheaton College, 2016 English

Started at the Leadership School: August 2016

Kelsey graduated from Wheaton College with a degree in English. She looks forward to bringing her nine years of outdoor education experience from her beloved Camp Kiniya, where Kelsey was a cabin leader and division head. Kelsey loves being outside and her interests include camping, curling, cookie dough, and the good ole game of hoop roll - Any time. 

Will Hackett - Leadership School Educator

Muhlenberg College, 2010

Will is a native of Belle Meade, NJ and spent six years as a camper at Kieve. During his seven years as a counselor and five as an Assistant Tripping Director for Kieve Boys Camp, Will worked with children ranging from 8 - 16 years and led several extended trips into the Maine Wilderness. He is a 2010 graduate of Muhlenberg College. Will enjoys playing and watching sports and exploring the wilderness.

Rachel Lannino - Leadership School Educator

Rachel spent the summer at her camp on Lake George and she's really excited to be back at TLS. She loves kites, dogs, and ice cream.

Hayden McKee - Leadership School Educator

Started at The Leadership School: March 2017

Hayden is from Cambridge, Massachusetts, and first came to Kieve as a camper in 2007. He enjoys long walks on the beach and generally just being outdoors. Now in his third year at TLS, he is excited to continue to combine his love of teaching with his passion for nature and the state of Maine, and can often be found playing board games, seasonally relaxing in the sun and hiking through the woods of the northeast.

Sam Mengual - Leadership School Educator

Hamilton College, 2016

Started at The Leadership School: August 2016

Sam is from West Hartford, CT.  While attending Hamilton College, Sam led outdoor orientation programs for incoming students in the Adirondacks. In the summer she works for Apogee Adventures leading trips in places such as Puerto Rico, Scotland, and the Alps. In the winter, Sam works with RSU 23 in Old Orchard Beach, teaching and playing with 5th and 6th grade students. She is extremely passionate about plants, social and emotional learning, and traveling. In her free time, Sam can be found running and playing cribbage.

Matt Moss-Hawkins - Leadership School Educator

Bates College

Started at The Leadership School: August 2017

Matthew is from Newton, Massachusetts and enjoys teaching the youths about the subtle stragtegies of Spike-Ball. He has travelled to California and Alaska to lead multi-day backpacking and kayaking trips with the youths. He also is an avid sailor and looks forward to teaching students in such a beautiful place with other wonderful like minded folks.

David Munger - Leadership School Educator

Since graduating from Hamilton College in 2016, Dave has been enjoying the process of learning and growing at The Leadership School. After growing up as a Colorado native, he came East to see more of the country and has found a new home in the beautiful state of Maine. In his free time, Dave can be found rock climbing, whitewater kayaking, or making homemade guacamole. This season, he is looking forward to learning about the things that students are passionate about, introducing them to new perspectives, and enjoying the all around playful lifestyle at TLS.

Whitney Pander - Leadership School Educator

Ithaca College, 2015 Outdoor Education

Whitney grew up in Richmond, VA and graduated from Ithaca College in 2015, where studied Outdoor Education. Since college, Whitney has spent her time traveling the country, exploring the natural wonders of the planet, teaching science education and leading various wilderness trips. Whitney is passionate about experiential character education in wilderness settings, and The Leadership School combines each of those in an exciting format! 

Ross Richins - Leadership School Educator

Ross is from Westerly, Rhode Island. Thoughout his time in both high school and college spent a significant amount of time working with children in both an educational and a more relaxed setting. He enjoys helping kids reach their full potential and realize what they are capable of. Ross currently works as a camp counselor at Kieve and is ecstatic to be returning in the fall.

Jessica Richter - Leadership School Educator

Jessica was born in Montreal, but grew up in Colorado. It was in the Rockies that she fell in love with hiking, camping, skiing and snowboarding. At Seattle U, she led school leadership retreats and excursions in the Cascades, then worked as a TA at McGill. She also enjoys reading, singing, and spontaneous traveling.

Drew Schmid - Leadership School Educator

Drew grew up in Boothbay, Maine, and attended The Leadership School as a student in seventh grade. A grade A nerd, Drew enjoys dense history books, whittling, watercolor, foraging for wild edibles, and Arab funk.

Brian Sperry - Leadership School Educator

Brian is from WestPoint, UT. He grew up with a love and respect for the outdoors and has always loved hiking and backpacking. Brian believes in being a lifelong learner, and asking as many questions as you can. He love The Leadership School and the wonderful people he has met here.
